 Random Post 1

If you don't already know by now, I love cricket. The sport, not the bug. So, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that even though I am in the US, and my country, India is playing in India, I stay up at night to watch their matches. However, this random post is not just about my love for cricket. This random post is going to be about an exemplary cricketer who just recently made his debut for India. The cricketer I am referring to is Yashasvi Jaiswal. Now at first, I let my ego get in the way and I was hesitant to write about Yashasvi because he's younger than me, only by a couple of months, but still. However, rather than being arrogant, I've now come to terms that I should instead be taking inspiration from this incredible individual who had to go through so many challenges to go and pursue his dreams of playing cricket and at the highest level, which is to play internationally for India.

Yashasvi making his debut for India

From selling street food to playing for India

Now what makes Yashasvi's life so special you may ask? Well, he is from a small town in Uttar Pradesh in India and moved to Mumbai at the age of 11 all alone to pursue cricket for better opportunities. However, he didn't have a rich relative or even any relative in Mumbai who he could take support from and so there were many months where Yashasvi was homeless and lived in a tent on the cricket ground. While kids his age after cricket practice could come home and relax, Yashasvi on the other hand was selling street food as a vendor to support his cricketing journey. Even if Yashasvi wanted to ask his parents for money, they were unable to send him more than they already had been. So, he was all on his own, but he figured it out. He didn't let life bring him down and look to blame anyone, instead he took control of his own life and went to write his own destiny.

Yashasvi’s journey took a significant turn when he was picked up by the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League auction for a sizable amount, changing his financial situation overnight. At the IPL, Yashasvi seized the opportunity to learn and grow and played with the world’s biggest cricketers. His IPL performances led him to getting an India debut and since his debut he has solidified his spot in the national team and is yet to look back. Yashasvi’s journey is a reminder that you can control your own destiny all you have to do is dream and work hard.

Hopefully this inspires you the same way it inspired me!

  3. Hey Parth. Crazy that Yashasvi moved to Mumbai at 11 all alone. Couldn't imagine how difficult that was. Its always nice to see those who put in the work achieve the things they want. I just went to my first cricket game over the winter break in Australia so I'm somewhat familiar with the sport.

  4. You did it again Parth. What a great post and I really enjoyed reading it because growing up in America did not give me exposure to cricket as a sport, so this was an interesting read for me.

  6. Hey Parth, really cool post! I am big into sports media deals and thought I would share that interesting enough, crickets biggest league media rights deal was sold to an internet/ phone company that offers the games free to stream for all users- not your traditional business move with contracts this large.
