Book 2 Post 2

Book 2 Post 2  The book I have continued to read is Feel-Good Productivity: How to Do More of What Matters to You by Dr. Ali Abdaal. As I mentioned in my previous post, Book 2 Post 1, I couldn't have asked for a better book at this time during midterms season. Moreover, being someone who prefers the visual medium more than reading (I blame TikTok for reducing our attention spans), I consequently started watching Dr. Abdaal's YouTube Channel to learn more about studying techniques etc. But what fascinated me the most was how does someone like Dr. Abdaal, who is a full-time doctor, create content on YouTube with several million subscribers? As one would expect, Dr. Abdaal probably works hundred-hour work weeks, and then potentially feel good after accomplishing what he wanted to. However, turns out that is not the case. As Dr. Abdaal put it, "Step 1: feel good. Step 2: do more of what matters to me". So rather than suffering and putting in the "grind" as most...

AMDP Proposal Draft

AMDP DRAFT PROPOSAL: IPL After conducting extensive research, I have identified a possible investment and firmly recommend that we at AMDP do invest in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As a prominent entity in the global sports industry, the IPL has exceeded beyond all expectations by promoting not only a high-intensity and widely celebrated cricket tournament but also it has also emphasized suitability and community involvement, particularly for women. An investment in the IPL will not only offer us a great return on our investment, but also perfectly aligns with AMDP’s investment values.      The following memo will be discussing: ·      An examination of AMDP’S ethical and sustainable guidelines ·      A detailed overview of the IPL, including its history, financial performance and claims ·      Two expert opinions on the IPL’s sustainability practices   ·    ...

Extra Credit Assignment

How the Week Organizes and Tyrannizes Our Lives It's one of those things that you don't think about, until you do, and you feel stupid for how long it took you to recognize something that was right in front of you this entire time.  I'm talking about the article "How the Week Organizes and Tyrannizes Our Lives" by Jill Lepore for The New Yorker. This article is about why the week is divided up into 7 parts, the historical and cultural significance. It also discusses how the 7-day week is deeply ingrained various parts of society and we don't even realize it, whether its religion, TV programming and as expected work schedules. I did not know that the 7-day week had tried to be replaced, from the French revolutionaries to the Bolsheviks, but since the 7-day week was and is something, we are all so used to, it has been virtually impossible to challenge it. What I particularly found beautifully haunting in this article was the ending " Elisabeth Achelis died...

Book 2 Post 1

Book 2 Post 1  The book that I've decided to read couldn't have come at a better time, I'm obviously talking about Feel-Good Productivity: How to Do More of What Matters to You by Dr. Ali Abdaal. The reason that I'm saying that this book couldn't have come at a better time is because of midterms, and there are certainly some classes that I am having to take that if I had the choice I would probably not choose (I'm talking about you excel). The beginning of the book itself caught me off guard and I knew that this wasn't going to be like any other self-help book, "Merry Christmas, Ali. Try not to kill anyone." Now prior to reading this sentence, I didn't know anything about Ali Abdaal, so the sentence certainly got me hooked to read the book, but after the first couple of pages it made a lot more sense that it was about Abdaal's journey as a doctor. What I particularly liked about this book was that it, similar to our expert articles, laid o...
